Jedi & Ninja & Apprentice levels

This is an extreme challenge which should only be attempted by experienced cold water swimmers and a medical check up is advised.

You must be over 18 to enter this challenge.

Jedi / Ninja & Apprentice levels only recommended for experienced cold water swimmers as they are very onerous both physically and logistically.

SPECIFIC proof of water temperature is required. See note #2 below for more info.

The clothing rules for Jedi Polar Bears, Ninja Penguins and Extreme Ninja Penguins are the same as for the other challenge levels. Info HERE

To qualify as a Jedi / Ninja you must enter the full Jedi / Ninja Challenge and swim at least 3000 metres each month to include 2 swims of at least 250 metres each in a single swim and you must also complete all 10 of the specified individually numbered full swims to get  20 points ( each individual specified swim only counts once ) - see below.

To qualify as a Jedi Apprentice or Ninja Apprentice you must enter the Jedi Apprentice or Ninja Apprentice Challenge and swim at least 3000 metres each month to include 2 swims of at least 250 metres each in a single swim and also you have to complete at least 5 of the specified full swims to get  10 points ( each individual specified swim only counts once ) - see below.

NOTE #1 - a number of the specified swims require water below 7 degrees  - The UK sea temperature rarely falls below 7 degrees so to achieve these levels you will need to travel or find a fresh water swimming area which drops to the required temperature.

NOTE #2 - swims at 7.00 degrees or less must have proof of water temperature submitted by sending in photographic evidence of TWO SEPARATE THERMOMETERS confirming the temperature is at or below that required at  the time and place that you  swam.

If swimming at a venue where the water temperature is posted on a board or social media you will still need to provide your own evidence of at least one themometer in the water at the time of your swim as well as evidence of the temperature recorded by the venue.

NOTE #3 - the temperature must be AT OR BELOW that required. E.g. 7.01 or 7.1 degrees is too warm to count as a 7.00 or below swim.

NOTE #4 - you must leave at least 24 hours before each specified swim as they are very onerous and this gives you time to fully recover.

NOTE #5 - Each swim is numbered and counts only once as a 1 or 2 point swim. If you complete a specified swim at 1 point qualification you may upgrade and replace this to 2 point level if you swim the more onerous swim later on. E.G if you claim 750 metres at 9 degrees or less but later on swim 1500 metres at 9 degrees or less the 1 point swim will be replaced by the 2 point swim.

The 10 specified swims do not need to be swum in any particular order but need to be done some time between November and March. The 3k per month can include any specified swims done that month.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR JEDI BEARS  AND NINJA PENGUINS.

This is an extreme challenge which should only be attempted by experienced cold water swimmers and a medical check up is advised.

UK temperatures may not get low enough to complete the challenge in the UK so some travel at your own expense may be necessary.

Several of the Jedi swims are individual qualifying swims for an Ice Mile attempt under IISA rules. Please refer to the IISA website for more information on Ice Miles https://www.internationaliceswimming.com/
